What is house hacking?
House hacking means buying a home, living in part of it and renting out the rest, so the rent covers part or all of your housing cost. The classic version is a two- to four-unit building where you take one unit. Spare bedrooms, a basement apartment or a garage unit work as well.

- A single-family home with rooms to rent. You live in the house and rent one or more bedrooms.
- A home with an accessory dwelling unit.A basement apartment or a garage unit that rents separately from the main home.
